If a moisture scan confirms the long-term viability of a recovery roof system, loose gravel is removed from the existing roof membrane and a layer of insulation is fastened through the existing roof and directly into the underlying roof deck. This insulation provides both separation from the existing roof membrane, as well as attachment to the structure itself.
