In a recovery system of a conventional gravel-surfaced built-up roof, the loose gravel is either vacuumed or removed with a power broom. This process removes anywhere between 2-4 pounds per square foot, and leaves behind only that gravel that is permanently embedded in the asphalt or tar surface of the roof.
