A Recovery System is one where a second roof is installed on top of an existing one. There are a few key criterion that need to be addressed in the design of a successful long-term recovery system including the ability of the structure to handle the additional dead-load as well as the need to be sure that you don’t trap an existing moisture. We can perform a moisture scan of the existing materials to be sure that the existing roof is a suitable substrate for the new materials. Once the existing roof is checked for moisture, any surfacing is removed and a layer of insulation is attached through the existing roof and directly into the structural roof deck. At that point, you have a number of options in terms of what you want to use as the roofing / waterproofing layers. These photos illustrate a multi-ply polymer modified bitumen system
