Certain types of roofs are much easier to remove during colder weather than they are in the heat of the summer. Coal tar pitch and asphalt, for instance, have relatively low “softening points” – they become “gummy” when they are warm, making it more difficult and time consuming to cut the existing roof into sections for removal. By removing these types of roofs in cooler temperatures, you save labor costs.
The better roof systems can be installed 12 months out of the year while systems that rely upon tape and contact adhesive cannot. Conventional and modified systems that are installed with heat can be installed at the same level of quality now as they would be in July and August. The difference is that our men prefer working up on the roof when the temperatures are in the thirties much more than when they are in the nineties!
